A year of blogging about cartography (and the occasional GIS analysis too) has gone by!
A look back at some of the serious and seriously strange blog entries:
Typography Rules: A Pictorial Tutorial
How to use Hashing Effectively
Question to readers:What topics are you most interested in reading about? Are there certain posts you read and others that you skip? What should I focus on in the coming year in terms of content for the blog? More cartography specific tips? General business tips? Creativity science? Let me know!

Hi Gretchen,
I have been reading your blog for almost a year now, which is one of my favourites within the field of GIS.
Thanks a lot for the numerous posts, all very interesting.
As a web GIS developer, I am specially interested in the categories “web maps”, “workflow”, “typography”, “best practices”, “cartography profession”.
I actually like them all. Beyond GIS technicals/software, I love the research you share about many various aspects of the the GIS field, and by doing so, your blog contributes to the world GIS culture.
I hence read the categories “education” and “inspiration” with much interest as well. By encompassing so various aspects of the GIS landscape (art, education, engineering, techniques, marketing), your posts meets a big variety of interests (passion, business, development…), which is why it is hard to say what categories I may prefer. General business tips may also be interesting, although to me the GIS topic should remain central.
So, big thanks to you for sharing so much. Your blog is an excellent source of inspiration to my GIS research & dev!

Hi Gretchen,
Don’t change a thing!
What I love about your posts are the varied and personal approaches you take to the subject. The combination of practical advice, humour, reflections, and insights that branch into life in general is refreshing in a field that can be dry at times.
Having grown into the cartography/GIS field following a basic Geography bachelor degree, I’ve trained myself just about every step of the way. I’ve spent and continue to spend a lot of time searching the web for resources to both broaden the scope of my understanding of the field and sharpen my technical skills. You have the rare talent of being able to communicate about both those aspects (let’s call them the macro and the micro) in a clear and engaging manner.
keep it up!

What J-F said. I don’t get to visit the blog often but when I get the time I’m never disappointed.
